Welcome back to the fastest growing blog in the country!
Well it’s finally here… summer’s almost over, and the fall weather has hit Oklahoma; feels like Seattle (without the rain), THAT MEANS FOOTBALL! And there is going to be some big league football being played in the State of Oklahoma this season.
The Sooners start the season ranked #3 in the country with tremendous star power coming back. Littered with all American & all conference players they are once again a national championship contender. Some national people think the losses at offensive line will devastate Bradford and an offense that averaged over 50 points per game last year. Hey Andre Ware… four losses? You trying to make a name for yourself? I’d bet my next three paychecks that they don’t lose four games.
The linebacker injury situation is a concern. And the tough road schedule could be a factor, but this is a big time program. Year after year Bob Stoops and his staff have these guys ready to play no matter who they face… except for the dreaded last game of the year.
Wouldn’t it be awesome if the same scenario from last year happened again, but insert Oklahoma State into the Texas Tech slot for the 3-way tie. Think about this: Texas beats OU (that would give Mack Brown 4 out of 5 – not good for Stoops), OSU beats Texas (hard to fathom lately I know, but it’s in Stillwater), and OU beats OSU Thanksgiving weekend. Will Texas cry the red river again? I think so.
Oklahoma State is getting ready to play in what I believe to be the biggest non-conference game in the history of the school in a brand new, beautiful stadium. They have a bunch of star power as well; unfortunately it’s all on offense. When will OSU play even decent defense? Their offense is a juggernaut and will score against anyone. The question will be how many points will they give up? If OSU wants to hit the national stage they have to beat Georgia. They are a 6 point favorite at home… if you want to be a big time program you have to win these types of games. If they lose this game the national media will anoint the SEC ruler of all college football, and OSU’s momentum will take a major hit.
I think they will win. But it all depends on the Texas game.
Look, they’re going to lose in Norman; unless you have on orange boxer shorts you realize this. But Texas at home is the type of game that we continue to talk about. Unfortunately, I can’t go out on that limb. I’ve gone back and forth, but I believe Texas is really good. So I’ve got OSU going 10 and 2 with their only losses being to two of the best teams in the country. What a great season for Mike Gundy and his team.
I didn’t predict a record for OU, because I’ve got them going back to the National Championship game… again. And guess what? Losing again to Florida.
So Florida in the SEC wins another championship (I hate going with the chalk!) and Bob Stoops has to answer questions about being 2nd in the country. Should be good radio.
Hey OU Fans: If OU wins a 7th Big 12 Championship under Stoops, but loses the championship game are you going to demand a change?
Hey SEC fans: why do you guys cheer ‘SEC’ at a game? I’m a Steeler fan, should I cheer ‘AFC North’ when they’re dominating somebody? This is one of the dumbest things I’ve ever seen in my life and you all are the only ones that do it. Please explain it to me; it makes no sense.
Random thoughts:
To Lou Holtz: You’re picking Notre Dame to go undefeated and be “upset” by Florida. The upset, Lou, is your “homer” pick doesn’t go all the way – what a joke!
I like Penn State to have a great year; hopefully Paterno will get to see it all.
I’m interested to see how the Freshman quarterback does at USC; he’ll have all the tools around him, but it’s hard to pick a team with a true freshman at QB.
Will Oregon win the Pac 10? Not ready to get on that limb…
Washington and Washington State: Nice football! (lol) Should be a fun fall for college football fans in the great North West.
Coming up:
Next week I will break down the NFL, the league that contains the greatest professional organization of all time (and I might add, the defending champions)… The Pittsburg Steelers!
